Be prepared to start over or start from the bottom!
Hey guys welcome to to day 7 of celebrating 10 years living in the UK. Today’s reflection is very short as it’s just a thought for you to consider.
A few days before I left Montserrat I remember sitting outside watching the sunset. I wondered if I’d be able to enjoy such simple pleasures in the UK. Fast forward 8 years later and I was on my way to an event with some friends and a lady who was sat beside me in the van who was also from the Caribbean, made her observations about the types of plants that we saw whist on the Motorway. ” Not one fruit tree”! She exclaimed. She began talking about the beauty of her homeland what she had and what she gave up to move to the UK.
Being in a new country has its perks but sometimes people neglect to talk about the things they grieve. The food, their culture, the weather, lost time with their family and the biggest issue starting over.
If you migrate as a child, adjusting is easier. As an adult you end up settling or going through the rigours of retraining or working from the bottom to hopefully one day reach the top. While some people have an easier time, the majority struggle.
This was one of the things I struggled with. Starting over. Proving my worth or my ability. For years I would say “I’m not gonna…..” As time has passed God has changed my perspective and mindset and showed me that retraining or doing something over made me a better person and eventually even more qualified and marketable.
So you’ve migrated and you can’t find something in your field, take the job, get your foot through the door so you can have experience and learn great life lessons. Walk diligently as you grow to the top. It’s hard to grieve what you had versus your reality; but embrace the new because better is always around the corner. Don’t lose sight of the reason why you relocated.
And for the ones who haven’t seen a sunset in a minute…this picture today is for you
Until next time…Besos😘
