It’s Monday and I am totally crashing, or at least I was. I was about to give into the lull of my sofa and blanket when purpose and desire snapped me out of my slumber. Hours later, I’ve just closed my design program feeling so fulfilled, nervous, excited, hungry for more and accomplished. I am doing more than just quoting my favorite scripture: I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength; I am now living it out.
I am a big supporter of others. If you have an event I am coming, you’re starting a business I’m buying the product and telling others about it. If I have an idea I’ll give it to you to execute for me and pay you, when truth is I could’ve done it myself. When it comes to me, I’ll draft the idea, write out the plan and close the book, then be shocked when I see someone else doing the same thing I sketched months maybe years ago. I guess I am saying all of this to say after 10 years of observing, sitting on the sidelines and making myself small. I’m finally taking the plunge and do all that God has tasked me to.
I use to ask God why did you make me this way? Was I the star in the saying ‘Jack of all trades, master of none’? It almost seemed like I had ADHD. Busy at doing all sorts but all ending in an incomplete pile. However as time has progressed I can see all of my abilities coming together. I am a creative and I just needed to sit in it to see it come to fruition.
This week I’m preparing for my second event of the year; my book reading. Earlier this year I put part of my creative being on paper and wrote a book inspired by my journey as a single mom. This weekend I’m honored to host an event to pour into women as others have done for me over the years. I am organizing, drafting, creating, documenting, sketching and coordinating behind the scenes to see this event come to life. It’s giving Jack of all trades; however the quote in its entirety: ” A Jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one!”
I guess all of this ramble just to encourage someone who has been wanting to do something new. Stop hiding behind others or in the shadows. Do it scared, do it uncertain, do it broke, do it sloppy, do it your way. As my son said to me tonight as we were designing some images: “God taught it now do it!” Be fruitful and multiply your talents, do not bury them any longer.
