Welcome back to day 5 of this series as I celebrate 10 years of living in the UK
I pondered what I’d talk about in today’s blog and finally before the midnight hour, I’ve decided to talk about my kiddos. When we moved to the UK, I was pregnant with my son and my daughter was 8 years old.

So you’ve got children and you’re thinking about migrating. Here’s 3 top tips before you pack that suitcase.
- Weigh up the pros and cons- many times we move out of frustration, maybe desperation, only to face harder times on the other side: true to the saying the ‘the grass isn’t always greener on the other side’. Ensure that the benefits of migration far exceed the cons for your children and yourself.
- Go before them- This will be hard leaving your kids behind, however going before them allows you to find a proper home to house them, it gives you time to understand the culture and the system and set up a good foundation for them. Everybody’s circumstances are different so your timeline maybe longer or shorter than someone else’s
- Prepare them for their new environment- adjusting is hard, so make sure that you begin to prepare them for the move and keep checking in after the move is completed. Moving is never easy and though children are resilient, sometimes they don’t tell us exactly how much the change is or has affected them
Hope this tip helps if you’re thinking about making a move. Ultimately we all migrate, relocate or move to new states or counties for a positive change. Amidst the hardships, I am happy that I moved because my children have been afforded wonderful opportunities. Watching them develop academically and being able to explore clubs that nurture their talents and abilities makes it all worthwhile.
Thanks for reading today’s blog…until tomorrow…
